THE Last Tango is so named because Strictly Come Dancing stars Vincent Simone and Flavia Cacace are dancing together for the last time after 20 years in tandem.

Rather than a greatest hits compilation, the dynamic duo are saying farewell in the manner of previous tour shows Midnight Tango and Dance 'Til Dawn, creating their "most moving production yet" with a storyline running through its core.

On this occasion, it is a story of attic memories, as Teddy Kempner's George prepares to leave home, packing away his past, each photograph or found item stirring thoughts of days gone by. Unfortunately, this somewhat clunky, stodgy device breaks the rhythm of the dance show with its forced humour and hammy emotions, while the attic rather overpowers Morgan Large's set design.

Thankfully, Argentine Tango championsVincent and Flavia can be relied on to bring dancing thrills, drama, passion, intimacy, heat and grace to the dancefloor, and Vicky Gill's costumes for Flavia are a glorious show of their own. The ensemble dancers play their part too, most notably in a fabulous Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy, and dapper vocalist Matthew Gent's smooth croon flows like the best dance moves.

If you expected farewell tears at the finale to Karen Bruce's production, there was to be no downbeat pas de deux. Instead Vincent and Flavia danced with dazzling fury in their feet, the heat still rising the faster they moved. The Last Tango was gone, exhilarating to the end.
