CHIEF executive Steve Stewart is wrong to claim a “definitive decision” over improper payments to senior staffers or that there will be “no further actions arising from the issue”.

He is deluding himself if he thinks that governance campaigners are going to let senior management at City of York Council sweep this under the carpet. They are not.

We are constantly being told they are highly paid because of the responsibility they carry.

Well now is the time for that responsibility to count. They should resign forthwith. Failing that, elected councillors who hold the political authority should begin proceedings to terminate their employment.
