WELSH singer and television and radio presenter Aled Jones will be the guest soloist at the Castle Howard Proms Spectacular on Saturday, August 20.

Aled is in celebratory mood after spending his third week at number one in the UK classical charts and scoring his highest ever position in the UK official charts at number three with his new album One Voice. This success makes him the highest-charting British male classical artist in a decade.

Proms Spectacular promoter Rob McIntosh says: "We're delighted to be able to announce such a fantastic soloist for this year’s programme. Aled will be forever remembered as one of the world’s most successful boy sopranos and will bring a real operatic feel to the concert."

Aled Jones will be singing with the English National Orchestra at the August Proms night. "Castle Howard is one of my favourites. You get a bit of everything there from the greatest opera hits like Nessun Dorma to the join-in songs such as Land Of Hope And Glory. It's always a huge pleasure to sing there," he says.

"As you look out over the crowd whilst sharing the stage with a symphony orchestra, you can see some serious candlelit dinner parties going on. It can only happen in a field in Yorkshire."

Joining Aled on stage will be exuberant conductor Jae Alexander and star soprano Janet Mooney, who will be making a welcome return to Castle Howard for an outdoor picnic concert that celebrates the best of British with a dramatic firework finale.

The Proms Spectacular is the second Castle Howard concert to be confirmed for the summer, following the announcement of Sir Tom Jones's return to the green, green grass of North Yorkshire on July 16. Tickets are on sale at maconcerts.co.uk
