A HEARTBROKEN mum has described the horrifying moment she realised her five-month-old daughter had died in her sleep.

Becky Adams, 30, woke up in the middle of the night on February 17 to check on baby Oceon Adams, but found she was not breathing.

Miss Adams, who grew up in Tang Hall, was visiting a friend in York when the tragedy unfolded.

"I woke up at 6.30 in the morning and came back into the bedroom to get my charger, and that's when I noticed her," said a distraught Miss Adams, who is also mum to four-year-old Lacey.

"It's very hard to take and I have a four-year-old who witnessed it all that morning.

"Oceon was always smiling and was just starting to crawl and get up on her knees.

"She was really happy and every picture we have of her shows her smiling and she had just started getting teeth as well which made her even cuter."

A post mortem carried out on Oceon has proved inconclusive and the 30-year-old says she is still unsure how her child died.

Miss Adams, who moved from York into a larger home in Northallerton before Oceon passed away, is trying to raise £925 to buy a headstone for her daughter's plot at Fulford Cemetery.

The fundraising goal to provide a memorial for her baby and Miss Adam's efforts to bring up her other daughter has kept her strong in testing times.

She added: "Nothing feels real still.

"It doesn't even feel like it's happened but I'm getting counselling and so is my daughter."

Miss Adams has already relied on the kindness of family, friends and strangers to fund Oceon's funeral, which took place at Fulford Crematorium last month.

However, she has set up another GoFundMe account to pay for the headstone and is organising a family fun day at the Shoulder of Mutton Pub, in Heworth Green, on Sunday, May 8.

The day begins at noon and will include a bouncy castle, tombola, raffle, stalls and a barbecue will take place until 6pm.
