A YORK-based firm has pledged its support to help a flood-hit cricket club with everything from flood repairs and a new senior and junior kit for the team.

GEM Construction has signed on as sponsors in a new deal which they say could not come at a better time for the Clifton Alliance Cricket Club.

The Boxing Day floods completely destroyed the club’s practice net area and the access road became almost impassable while parts of the gravel laid car park had been washed away.

Mike Green, chairman of GEM Construction, said they were only too pleased to come to the rescue.

"Cricket is a passion of mine so I am pleased that we have agreed a sponsorship deal."

The cricket club's chairman, Dave Heartshorne, said they were delighted with the help "when we need it most."

"The funds will help towards the work needed on our nets, ground and car park, as well as our recent outlay to get the flood waters pumped away. This sponsorship is particularly exciting as we may also be able to look at a grass net cage to improve our practice facilities even further.

"This is a massive boost to the club which will benefit all our players and members of all ages.”
