SCOUTS and Guides have thanked the public for their support following this year's St George's Day parade.
About 2,000 young people from the Scout and Guide movements around York were joined by the Selby Scout and Guide Band, St Chad’s Scout Band and The ATC Band.
The procession went from the Eye of York to the bowling green area of Museum Gardens, as the usual venue of York Minster was unavailable, where birthday celebrations were held to mark the centenary of Cub Scouts, Girlguiding’s Senior Section and the 30th anniversary of Beaver Scouts.
Rainbows and Beavers met the parade in the gardens, where stilt walkers, magicians, clowns and Where’s Wally entertained them, along with the York Samba band.
The event was also attended by the Deputy Lord-Lieutenant, the City of York Civic Party, County and District Scouting representatives and representatives of the Girlguiding County of North Yorkshire South, along with Sgt Major Brian Kearney from York Garrison who led the groups who marched.
