YORK Nomads and Wigginton Grasshoppers face each other for the fifth time this season in the York Sunday Morning League Senior Challenge Trophy final.

Nomads, who have yet to conquer their foes, defeated Bubwith White Swan 3-1 in the semi-final. Chris Dyson opened with a superb finish after a head down by Pete Laidlaw. Adam Thornton then ran onto a diagonal ball from Ryan O’Reilly, lobbing the goalkeeper from the edge of the area.

Bubwith rallied to make it 2-1 but the Nomads defence, led by O’Reilly and Matt Hattee, stood firm. Tom Wheatland produced a neat finish to seal Nomads passage to the final.

Wigginton took the lead after 16 minutes when Neale Holmes slotted home after support from Jamie Green. The second half saw Jamie Willstrop tee up Holmes for his second goal. Malt Shovel missed a penalty after 65 minutes.

The final is at Huntington Rovers on Sunday, May 8 at 10.15am. The Junior Challenge Trophy final follows at 1.30pm at the same venue.

In the York Sunday Morning League Division One, Dunnington earned a 4-1win at Hambleton. Samson Wildwood (2), Simon Castle and Kieran Smith found the net for the visitors.

NUR lead Division Two after a 5-4 win over Thorpe United. Thorpe took a 2-0 lead through Shaun Gandy and Curtis Swain before Rob Constable pulled a goal back. Thorpe established a 4-1 lead before half-time thanks to a James Newnham penalty and a Jake Wild strike.

Constable hit a second-half-hat-trick, with Gaz Stephenson also scoring for a remarkable NUR turnaround.

Cliffe and York Medics played a double-header, Medics winning the first game 4-1 before Cliffe took the second by the odd goal in five.

Lewis Warnock, Alex Renwick, Leo Watton and Jake Patel found the net for Medics in the first, with Nathan Parker hitting Cliffe’s sole reply. The second game saw Tom Collins and Glynn Richardson join Parker on the scoresheet for Cliffe. Matthew Fortnam and Alex Renwick struck for Medics. Cliffe need 10 points from six games to win the title.

Selby Olympia defeated Knapton Lions by 4-1. Sam McAllister bagged a brace with Dave Whisker and Tom Lazenby also scoring. Callum Watson struck a consolation.
