A SERIAL sex offender has been found dead at a probation hostel in York.

Steven Fishwick, 33, who has convictions for sexually assaulting children and also for robbery and violence, was found dead at Southview Hostel in Boroughbridge Road, The Press understands.

York Press:

A National Probation Service spokesperson said Fishwick was found unresponsive in his room at 'an approved premise in Yorkshire' last Friday, April 22.

"Staff attempted CPR and an ambulance was called but he was pronounced dead shortly after," said the spokesperson.

"As with all deaths in custody there will be an investigation by the independent Prisons and Probation Ombudsman."

The spokesperson added that there were no suspicious circumstances.

North Yorkshire Police said the force was contacted at 9.37am last Friday to reports of the sudden death of a 33-year-old man at a property in Boroughbridge Road.

"Officers are treating the man's death as unexplained and are carrying out an investigation to determine how he died and the circumstances that led to his death."

It was reported by the Hull Daily Mail last September that Fishwick had been jailed again by a judge at Hull Crown Court after being caught in a field with two young girls, having already being barred from unsupervised contact with children. The court heard this was the second breach of a sexual offences prevention order in just four months.

Fishwick was reported to have 37 previous offences, including having sex with an underage girl, sexually assaulting children, failing to comply with his notification requirements as a sex offender, robbery and violence.

Judge David Tremberg told Fishwick, of Albemarle Street, west Hull, he had the record of a serial sex offender, and said the orders were there to provide a 'critical firewall' to protect vulnerable children from the risk of sexual harm that he posed to them.
