PRIMARY school children in York have set themselves a Sport Relief Challenge.

The youngsters from Clifton Green School are aiming to make a video that will see a ball passed across the country and around the world.

So far they have had responses from as far away as Brazil, America and Trinidad and Tobago, with York City Football Club, Leeds United, Everton Football Club and Yorkshire County Cricket Club all submitting clips. Everton’s clip features England midfielder Ross Barkley.

The school’s community outreach worker, John Hattam, said: “We’d love to see a whole variety of schools, uniformed organisations and other educational settings send us your 4-5 second clip that could get weaved into this Sport Relief Video.

“We’ll then use the video to raise sponsorship and show how children, young people and adults can be connected across the globe and do something good for somebody else.

“At Clifton Green we like to take part in projects that engage our children with issues outside the school.

“In this case we have been able to make contact with different schools from across the country and around the world.

“In this country we have had clips from Wolverley CE Secondary school in Kidderminster, South Coat School in Reading, St Paul’s CE in Nuneaton.

“We used social media to get in touch with the schools and in York Heworth CE and Lord Deramore’s have also sent us clips.”
