YOUTHS were seen fleeing the scene after a fire involving a gas cylinder was started - apparently deliberately - near an electricity sub-station.

North Yorkshire Fire & Rescue Service tweeted that the blaze happened at Nether Poppleton, near York, at 8.45pm last night.

"Fire crews from Acomb attended a fire involving a gas cylinder next to an electrical substation," it said.

"Youths were seen fleeing the scene by a witness. The fire was out on arrival of the fire service and the incident was left with the police. The fire is believed to be started deliberately."
