A "HIGHLY gifted musician" who has been at York Minster since September last year is to become the Minister's Assistant Director of Music.

 Benjamin Morris, who became a Minster organ scholar in the autumn, has been appointed to succeed David Pipe who is leaving York to become director of the Diocese of Leeds Organ School, and organist of Leeds Cathedral.

Minster Director of Music Robert Sharpe said: "We are delighted that Ben, who has been organ scholar at the Minster since September 2015, will be remaining in York as Assistant Director of Music. He is clearly a highly gifted musician who will contribute greatly to the music and worship of the Minster."

The Chapter have also thanked Martin Baker, Master of Music at Westminster Cathedral, for his advice in the interview process. Benjamin will begin his new role in May 2016.
