A MATERNITY ward will open up for its new occupants on Mother's Day.

The brand new addition to Piglets Adventure Farm, in Towthorpe, coincides with the re-opening of the attraction today (March 5) and will see all mum's admitted for free over the weekend.

The Maternity Ward is a new wing of the animal barn and gives visitors the chance to watch live births up close, as well as watch brand new piglets cuddle and nuzzle mum.

Ed Sykes, the owner of Piglets Adventure Farm, said: "Unlike any other animal, Pigs are pregnant for a strict three months, three weeks and three day period.

"The new Maternity Ward will ensure families can always see newborn piglets at the farm and if visitors are lucky enough, they may even see some born."

Carol, a Gloucester Old Spot, is expecting her seventh litter on Sunday and will be one of the first sows to enter the ward.
