Spring-clean workshops on money, image, confidence and fitness are being held in York as part of the women's week festival - and all for a good cause

WE spring clean our homes, but what about our minds, our bodies, or even our image?

If you need an all-round MOT, then perhaps it's time to book in for the Empowering Women Event on Saturday.

The day will be hosted by Lisa Clifford, a highly experienced business coach from York who is a regular on local radio and also a master practitioner of hypnosis, trained by Paul McKenna.

Joining Lisa will be two keynote speakers, Tilla Brook, a Yorkshire-based life coach for women, and Elaine Gill, a consultant in colour and style.

There will also be six workshops held on topics such as confidence, image, beauty, money matters, fitness and nutrition.

The event will take place on Saturday, from 9.30am to 4.30pm at Manor CE Academy on Millfield Lane, Poppleton, York. It is part of a week of activities planned in York around International Women's Day, which is today.

It has been organised by Macmillan Cancer Support in York. Some of their employees formed the Macmillan York Office Fundraising Committee in 2014 to raise funds in their own time for the charity that helps people affected by cancer. Events they have held so far include fashion shows, a coffee morning and a Valentine’s Ball.

All the funds raised from the Empowering Women Event will be used by Macmillan to fund vital cancer services for people affected by cancer, from specialist cancer nurses to grants for cancer patients with money problems.

Macmillan’s fundraising manager for York, Hayley Cooke, said: “Sadly the number of people being diagnosed with cancer is increasing every year and that means Macmillan’s support for people living with cancer is in more demand than ever.

“No one should have to face cancer alone and events like this help us be there for people affected by cancer and their family when they need us most.”

Workshops on fitness, beauty and nutrition among others will take place at the Empowering Women Event on Saturday

Around 100 women are expected to attend the event. Tickets cost £25 and include refreshments, lunch, two workshops and some well deserved “me” time.

Event organiser Lorraine Wilson said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for the women of York. We have an amazing day planned and have managed to secure some first-class speakers and workshop presenters who are experts in their fields.

"We are really excited to have Tilla Brook, leadership coach and inspirational keynote speaker, joining us on the day, who promises to create a fun-filled, energetic and inspirational atmosphere.”

Lisa Clifford is also looking forward to the day. She said: "I specialise in the mind, enabling people to grow their businesses, self-belief and live their dreams. Trained by the best in the world, I’m here to prove you really can do anything your heart desires when you achieve the right mind set.

"Sometimes we’re all too busy 'getting through' life to consider whether we’re thinking, behaving and achieving all that we hoped for ourselves. It’s so easy to get bogged down in the ‘need to dos’, without thinking what we’d really love to do.

"I’m from a sales background where I’ve developed and managed multi-million pound accounts internationally and in the UK. I know all about meeting targets, running a team, remaining profitable – and trying to squeeze in a fulfilling life for myself as well.

"Some years ago, the words 'what would you do if you knew you couldn’t fail?' changed my life for ever. I knew my lifestyle wasn’t creating the person I’d hoped I would be.

"You can be the person you want to be and I’m here to take you on that journey. I’ve done it for myself. Now I’m here to help you."
