Campaigners have won their fight to stop a 78-metre wind turbine being built near their village.
Residents of Kexby to the east of York are celebrating a planning inspector's decision in their favour.
He upheld the decision a year ago by York councillors to refuse planning permission for the turbine on a farm along the A1079 Hull road.
Some of the villagers would have lived 500 yards from the structure had EDP of Easingwold been allowed to build it.
The village's MP Julian Sturdy supported the campaign, and after the appeal's decision was announced, said: “For over a year local residents have had the fear of a giant wind-turbine in their back-yard hanging over them.
"I am delighted that today’s ruling will mean that they can now stop worrying and can get on with their lives."
The company had hoped to provide enough energy for 600 homes with the turbine. But council planning officers said it was in a green belt and Mr Sturdy said it was against a Government policy that local people should always have the final say on wind farm applications.
