READING-mad students at Millthorpe School hoped to earn themselves a place in the Guinness Book of World Records by taking part in the world’s biggest simultaneous book quiz.
More than 100 students donned their thinking caps in the school’s dining hall last week, joining thousands of other children up and down the country for the event, which tested their knowledge of literature from Hamlet and Dickens to Harry Potter and David Walliams.
The record attempt, which was overseen by independent adjudicators to ensure that it met the stringent Guinness criteria, was part of the school’s celebration of World Book Day.
The results are due to be confirmed on World Book Day on Thursday, March 3.
