AFTER full houses in 2014 and 2015, York Racial Equality Network will complete a hattrick of benefit concerts with an uplifting night of strumming and singing at the Unitarian Chapel, St Saviourgate, York, on Saturday night.

York residents are invited to banish the winter blues in the company of the Harmonix vocal group and fellow York musicians Ukulele Sunshine Revival at 7.30pm.

York Racial Equality Network seeks to work towards the elimination of racial discrimination and to promote equality of opportunity in York and surrounding areas.

Fred Ring, the charity’s chairman, says: "It’s great that two quality musical acts are again giving their time and talents and the Unitarian Chapel is providing the venue and refreshments, all at no charge, to benefit YREN. Though our work has a serious side, events like this show we can have a good time too.”

Harmony singers Harmonix perform songs from the Sixties through to the present day, accompanied by musical director Phil Quin on acoustic guitar. "We regularly perform in the York area to support good causes with our sound of sweet harmony," says Phil. "We're looking for new members, so any potential singers are encouraged to come along on Saturday to find out if our repertoire suits you.”

Ukulele Sunshine Revival promise "a unique take on a wide range of material". They support the friendly Yorkuleles Ukulele Club, which meets at the Knavesmire pub on Albemarle Road on Tuesdays from 7.30pm, when all ukulele enthusiasts are welcome, including beginners.

Frontman Rory Barke says: "It has been our pleasure to support YREN by entertaining folk at the lovely, centrally located Unitarian Chapel. The acoustics are brilliant and this year we intend to get everyone’s feet tapping and raise the rafters for the third time. It’s not only a load of fun, we also raise funds for a very worthwhile cause”
