IN her letter about the EU referendum, Tracey Simpson-Laing (The Press, February 9) asks why her daughter’s future should be ruined by bitter old men in suits who don’t like foreigners.

It’s a good question. I thought everyone was going to get a vote; clearly I was wrong, it’s just going to be bitter old men – in suits. I’m middle aged, cynical rather than bitter, don’t own a suit and don’t have any problems with foreigners.

However, I would still like a vote; if I lied about my age, hired a suit, complained about everything and started hurling abuse at foreign tourists, would I qualify?

On a more serious note does Tracey Simpson-Laing realise it’s this sort of hysterical demonisation of anyone who doesn’t agree with you 100 per cent that has driven natural Labour voters like me away from the party? And at a time when the country desperately needs a sane left of centre opposition.
