YORK'S Merchant Adventurers’ Hall, which was badly affected by the Boxing Day floods, is to re-open next Monday, just in time for the 32nd JORVIK Viking Festival.

The ground floor of the Medieval Guildhall including the Undercroft and Chapel were under a metre of water just over six weeks ago and it has taken a mammoth effort to get it up and running in time for the festival activities and it will fully re-open to visitors on Monday February 22.

Hall manager Lauren Marshall said:“It’s been a very difficult period at the Hall but with a lot of hard work and some fantastic support from the people of York and further afield we’re delighted to be in a position to reopen and to once again host events as part of the festival.”

However, it will still be some months before certain areas are fully operational, and the walls and flooring in the Undercroft and the 17th Century wooden pews in the Chapel were saturated, so the drying process will continue whilst the hall is open.
