ZOOKEEPERS at Scarborough's Sea Life Sanctuary are appealing for people's old towels to help them look after seal pups.

The animal care team needs to towels to look after and clean up after pups rescued in bad weather, and has almost run out after its last appeal.

Seal expert Lyndsey Crawford said: "We need towels to throw over the pups’ heads to subdue them when they’re receiving treatment.

"They’re also invaluable for mopping up afterwards and quickly get sodden with dirty fishy-smelling and often bloody sea water.

"If anyone’s got any old towels they were planning to throw out, we’d be very grateful if they could drop them off here instead."

The Sanctuary has recently taken in three abandoned and sickly seal pups and is expecting a fresh influx after the coming bout of bad weather.
