A FORMER Indian restaurant, which has been vacant for around 18 months, is to become the new home of a York engineering firm.
Subject to a planning application, Indian Vibes on Nunnery Lane will become the new offices of R Vint Engineering Ltd which is currently based in Fishergate Road.
The firm's current offices at 22a Fishergate were badly affected by flooding over Christmas, but the Managing Director Robert Vint says the move is more about space.
Mr Vint said: “We lost power for a week and out phone lines for about two weeks but the main issue is the need to expand.
“Business is doing well at the moment and we are hiring.
"We could expand faster if there were more trained locals.”
Mr Vint said they wanted to move closer to the station to help attract new staff who may commute in to York from elsewhere.
He added that the company, which started four years ago from Mr Vint’s bedroom, needed a better entrance and office space to welcome clients.
The scheme has been granted pre-planning approval in principle, and the company hopes to move in by May.
The firm have worked locally on the York marketplace regeneration scheme and executive housing in Harrogate.
