YORK Castle Museum has raised the rainbow flag to mark LGBT History Month.

The museum will also hold an evening tour next Thursday, with stories of the struggles and freedoms of LGBT*Q communities throughout history.

The tour, from 6pm to 7pm will explore the history of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans* and Queer communities, from the 1700s through to the present day.

Philip Newton, volunteers co-ordinator at York Museums Trust, said, “LGBT History Month is a fantastic way to increase public awareness of the history of LGBT*Q communities.

“With this special tour, we hope that people will be inspired by the museum’s displays and use this rare opportunity to create a unique look at this lesser-known history of York and the wider area.

“This event is a first for York Castle Museum and will be a truly eye-opening tour of one the most popular attractions in the city.”

Tickets for the tour are £8. To book, phone 01904 697979.
