A 17-YEAR-OLD Norwegian exchange student at York College has died suddenly, the college has confirmed.

The teenager was taken ill at her home in York and died in hospital on January 26. As inquiries are ongoing into her death, the Norwegian authorities have asked that she is not named, a spokesperson for York College said.

The young woman was studying the Heltberg International Programme - a one year course at York College for overseas students.

Floral tributes have been placed in the college in her honour.

They said: "Everyone at York College is deeply saddened by the sudden death of a seventeen year old Norwegian student. News of the student’s death was devastating for her family, her many friends at the College and all who knew and worked with her.

"The deceased was a model student who will be remembered for being a very bright, intelligent, hardworking and fun-loving individual who was enjoying her year in York.

"Her time in England was cut all too short and we send our thoughts and sincere sympathies to her family at this very difficult time. The College and its Norwegian partners will continue to provide counselling and other support for her family, fellow students and staff and she will be remembered for many years to come."
