FOUR students from a York private school have received offers of places from Oxford and Cambridge Universities.

Bootham School pupils Oskar Fraser-Krauss, Andrew Hodgson, Holly Jeffrey and Elliot Long, have won through to the offer stage at the prestigious universities against ever increasing competition from both UK and abroad.

Bootham head Jonathan Taylor, said: “The competition for top university places is now an international affair, with young people from schools around the world looking for the best possible courses.

"Every one of these students, and those from York’s other excellent schools, is to be congratulated. The York Independent State Schools’ Partnership is designed to foster just this kind of ambition.”

The students’ courses are maths at Queen’s College, Cambridge for Oskar, classics and French at Wadham College, Oxford for Andrew, modern and medieval languages at Clare College, Cambridge for Holly and economics and management at Jesus College, Oxford for Elliot. Places will be confirmed after the summer’s A-level exams.
