A PUB boss claims she has no idea what the future holds for her popular York venue.

The Saddle Inn, in Main Street, Fulford, was set to be turned into a Co-Operative store when it was purchased by retail property group New River Retail at the end of 2013.

Plans have since stalled, however, with the people running the former Marstons pub unsure how much longer they have left in the job.

May Cooper, manager of the Saddle Inn, said: "I'm still unsure what's happening to the pub.

"I don't know where they have got to with their plans.

"The last thing I heard everything was still up in the air.

"It's a bit unsettling because I can't move any further forward and can't find anything out.

"They sent a surveyor out last week and said he was coming to have a look around, but he wasn't giving anything away."

The Saddle is one of a number of pubs threatened with closure over the last two years as breweries looked to sell them off.

Companies do not have to apply for planning permission to adapt pubs and it was feared many of them would be turned into mini supermarkets and lost forever.

The Press' Be Vocal For Your Local campaign aimed to give drinkers a say on the future of their favourite pub.

We called on the Government to close the planning loophole and City of York Council to give all pubs an Article 4 Direction (A4D), to force companies to apply for planning permission.

The Punch Bowl, in Lowther Street, York, was granted an (A4D) by the council last summer to stop it being sold to the highest bidder after Tesco A spokesman for New River Retail said: "We are still reviewing our options for The Saddle which we have owned since December 2013 when it was acquired from Marston’s plc as part of a portfolio of 202 properties that Marston’s no longer wished to retain in their estate."
