SANTAS of all ages took to the streets of Malton on Saturday to raise funds for a local charity.

The Santa Run, which is staged in the Market Place, is organised by and helps to raise funds for Malton-based charity Ryedale Special Families.

There were two races for children and one for adults and a special addition to the event this year was a children’s Christmas party in the Milton Rooms, with festive activities. There will also be a visit from Father Christmas himself.

Rob Davies, organiser and funding coordinator of Ryedale Special Families, said this was the third year the Santa Run had been held.

"It is a little early to say how much we've raised, but it’s just as much about everyone enjoying it," he said.

"Too many thank you's, but in particular Liblet Pearson and Greg, Chris Marsden, Dougie and Jane from Vale Radio, Ryan Swain and Frank Lamingo, Malton Rotary, Malton Lions, Chris Eden and Squires Marshals, Gareth Williams, from Large Outdoors, Rich and Paul, from Community Traffic Management, John Ainley, Mark and Craig Shepherdson for First Aid, Lisa Keenan, Paul Buckle, Jon Wright and Trish, from RSF, Pat Harrison, from Crombie Wilkinson, our sponsors - Yorkshire Building Society, Smile Rooms and Spectrum Solicitors, Guy Baumann, from Krash Labs, and of course, Yasumi Davies for putting up with me."

Rob added: "I'm sure I've missed some, but just shows how many people you rely on to put on an event. And last but not least, the 122 runners who took part.Thank you all and Merry Christmas."
