THIEVES using power tools tried to break open three safes at a York church.
The thieves broke into St Stephens Church in York Road, Acomb, overnight on Saturday, and tried to crack the safes.
However, they were unable to open the safes, which only contained paperwork and nothing of value, and left instead having stolen loose change from charity collections.
Anyone who saw anything suspicious between 4.30pm on Saturday and 7.30am on Sunday, or has any information about the burglary, is asked to contact North Yorkshire Police on 101, email andrew.muir@northyorkshire.pnn.police.uk or phone Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111, quoting reference 12150211658.
