A taxi driver faces a £1,000 bill and is under a suspended prison sentence after he was filmed doing 59 mph in a 50 mph stretch of the A1 in North Yorkshire.
Aisha Wadoodi, prosecuting, said Riaz Ali, 27, gave a false name and address to police when he was officially informed that he had been clocked by a speeding camera.
Ali, of Crossland Avenue, Hull, pleaded guilty to perverting the course of justice and was given a four-month prison sentence suspended for 12 months on condition he does 100 hours' unpaid work. He must also pay £900 court costs plus £100 prosecution costs.
Judge Robert Bartfield said at York Crown Court it was a shame he couldn't impose penalty points on Ali's licence and that Ali had made a "pathetic" attempt to evade the speeding ticket.
For Ali, Kristian Cavanagh said he shouldn't have behaved the way he did.
