THE River Ouse is again flooding riverside paths and staiths in York following weekend rain - but the Environment Agency does not expect floodwaters to rise any higher despite today's further heavy rainfall.

The Blue Bridge, which crosses the River Foss at its confluence with the River Ouse, is pictured here marooned by floodwaters.

The agency has issued a flood warning for the Ouse at Naburn, and a flood alert upstream for areas such as footpaths and staiths, and more heavy rain is forecast early tomorrow.

But a spokeswoman said: "Although river levels are currently relatively high, we are not aware of any flooding at present other than at Naburn Lock, south of York.

"Over the next few days, bands of rain will be falling across North Yorkshire. We have closed the Foss barrier as a precaution, and our officers are monitoring the situation. However, we do not expect the current situation to worsen.

"The river will fall, and then rise again slightly in response to rainfall, but we do not expect it to exceed current levels. People can keep an eye on the situation by going to www.gov.uk/check-if-youre-at-risk-of-flooding."
