MY sister-in-law and I attended the matinee to see The Importance Of Being Earnest and found ourselves surrounded by sixth formers who are studying the subject.

We were seated centrally in row B. Leyburn sixth formers were to the left and right of us, with their teacher and helper next to us.

Two rows of Hull girls were sitting behind us. They were very noisy arriving. I asked them if they would be quiet during the performance. They said they would - and were.

Market Weighton sixth form were in the theatre too.

It was a fantastic performance, a play within a play. All the actors were superb.

How do they remember all the dialogue, especially Sian Phillips, Martin Jarvis and the lovely Nigel Havers?

When doing so well deserved bows, Nigel looked at me and asked me if I would like to have the rose he was holding.

"Yes please." We exchanged kisses - blown ones - along with Martin Jarvis.

Only the real thing would have been better.
