NOTHING better than setting a trap and watching people step in with both feet.

Reacting to me highlighting the York Green Party activists’ choice of travel down to London for the People’s Climate March, the local Green Party explains the shunning of the most environmentally friendly mode of transport – the train using the electrified mainline straight down to London – by saying “it is too darned expensive”.

That’s just how many feel about the supposedly “green” alternatives to travel and energy generation that the Green Party advocate for us all in this country.

What a pity we all can’t shun the expensive green levies applied to our energy bills to subsidise ugly, useless wind turbines or the costs of shipping wood chip across the Atlantic to generate supposedly green energy from our power stations.

While the Green Party feel morally able to choose the cheapest alternative for their own travel despite the emissions generated, we are fast seeing the fruits of pandering to this green lobby with the ruinously expensive costs of energy in this country leading to the loss of thousands of steel workers jobs and persistent warnings over potential power cuts this winter.

Moral of this tale to the Green Party: practise what you preach or stop preaching.
