YORK's sixth business week has been hailed a resounding success as early plans are set to take shape for 2016's event.

Last week saw more than 800 business across the region take part in more than 14 events, including workshops and seminars filling a packed five-day schedule.

While the event was overseen by the York Business Engagement Group, individual organisations and businesses were invited to organise their own events under the Business Week umbrella.

Previous years had seen more than 5,000 people attend in excess of 50 events, however last year's York Business Week saw a change in tactics with a more focused approach of 15 self-organised events aimed at inspiring even more people to become entrepreneurs, letting start-ups know how and where to access support, and showcasing York’s business success stories.

This year's agenda was aimed at delivering impactful, meaningful and exciting session that will bring together business skills, inspiration and insight for the delegates attending.

Emma Smailes, director of York Business Week Engagement Group, said: "Everyone I have spoken to has reported great attendance at all the events, and really positive feedback.

"We've seen more than 800 businesses attend events throughout the week.

"There were some new and really innovative events this year. The Suits and Vinyl evening was a great idea, and we saw some fantastic business taster sessions from businesses across the city, as well as the business pop-up cafe.

"The WiRE group bringing their conference to York as part of Business Week was a real coup for us too. It was great to see the return of previously successful events, like the Super Networking, but we needed new events to keep Business Week fresh, and they really stood out for me.

"The feedback has been fantastic, and there seems to be a real appetite to move this event forward next year. We've had a lot of interest from people keen to take part."

People interested in take part or hosting an event as part of 2016's York Business Week are being invited to attend an event at York St John University on Monday 30, from 10.30am. For more information email Mrs Smailes on emma.smailes@fsb.org.uk.
