A MALTON couple celebrating 65 years of marriage have put their longevity down to "working together - and travelling."
Ron and Dorothy Hewson were married in 1950 at St Mary's Church in Horden, near Peterlee in County Durham. Dorothy did clerical work for a solicitors' firm in Hartlepool.
The couple moved to York around 40 years ago, where Ron worked for Barrett's builders, and then to Ryedale 16 years later. They have four children - Ronald, Noel, Wendy and Simon - and seven grandchildren.
Dorothy said: "The secret is just working together to bring the kids up. We always had a good life. It's also important to spend a lot of time outdoors. We went caravanning to places all over England. Seeing the world is important I think - we spent many years in Singapore when Ron was in the army."
To celebrate their anniversary, the couple went for lunch with family.
