A QUIET corner of York is once again due to be taken over by creatures of the dark when a haunted house opens for Halloween.

For the second year running, a purpose built haunted house is due to open in St Nicholas Way in Wigginton.

The castle-like structure with spooky-themed rooms and corridors will be home to a ghoulish collection of live actors, projected holograms and animatronics, all performing to synchronised music and special lighting to raise funds for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

The Haunted House is the idea of Steve Hagan, who said: "This year will be a really good experience, it will be more 4D.

"It looks like it will be even better than last year."

New features this year include a dungeon, a moving floor over a swing bridge and lots of spooky surprises.

It will open on Friday, October 30 and Saturday, October 31, from 5pm to 9.30pm.

For people of a nervous disposition, Steve said all the rooms have panic buttons which turn on all the lights in case of a problem and CCTV cameras which are monitored within the main house.

The attraction is not suitable for under-sevens and under-13s need to be supervised.

Entry is free, and donations on exit will all go towards the work of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance.

Last year's haunted house raised £350 for St Leonard's Hospice in its first year.

Steve said he is hoping to raise much more this year as he has publicised the attraction more widely.
