A YORK MP has met with the Minister of State for Community and Social Care, to discuss the closure of Bootham Park Hospital and what steps should now be taken.

Julian Sturdy, the MP for York Outer, met with Alistair Burt, who has agreed to write to the Vale of York Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) asking them to produce a long term solution for a new facility in York.

He has also said he hopes to see the reopening of outpatient and ‘place of safety’ facilities at Bootham Park.

York Central MP Rachael Maskell has also spoken with Mr Burt over the phone to express her concerns.

Mr Sturdy said: "Today’s meeting was an opportunity to raise many of the concerns I have received from constituents over patient care and the continuation of Bootham Hospital’s facilities, and to press the Minister over the long-term solution for a new purpose built mental health facility that will be able to provide for the needs of the local area.

"The Minister was clear that the long term needs of mental health provision in the area demands urgent action, and he assured me that he will be keeping a close eye on developments and is prepared to intervene if local providers struggle to step up to the plate."

Mr Sturdy said he will continue to help anyone who approaches him over this matter.

A dedicated 24/7 NHS helpline for anyone with concerns relating to Bootham Park Hospital and mental health care has been set up at 01904 610700.
