HUNDREDS of people showed their support to St Leonard's Hospice by joining hands and giving its home a hug.

Families, friends and staff joined mascots from York City Football Club, York Knights, Minster FM and students from York College, children from Woodthorpe Primary School, fire fighters, police and soldiers in the symbolic display at the Tadcaster Road building, in York.

The event marks national Hospice Care Week, with this year’s theme Connecting Care, and was filmed by a drone that circled the building to take pictures for the Hospice's 2017 calendar.

Dawn Clements, head of fundraising at St Leonard's Hospice, said: "We wanted to do something like this because it's quite symbolic.

"There was probably about 250 supporters and 30 or 40 staff, so we got the right amount of people we needed to get right around the hospice."
