TWO people have been arrested during an investigation into a stinking rubbish tip near Selby, which residents claim has been affecting their health.
The Environment Agency says it is investigating alleged waste offences at a site in Great Heck, which was operated by Wagstaff Total Waste Management Limited before it recently went into liquidation.
“We have made arrests as part of this investigation and will take strong action against anyone who has caused harm to the environment," said a spokesman.
“We are closely monitoring the site and working with the landowner to ensure waste at the site is removed safely.”
He said the people arrested had been interviewed and released while inquiries continued.
The Press reported earlier this week how a mother-of-three, Sarah Webster, claimed all her children had been poorly because of the 'vile' smell from the waste site, which has been smouldering.
