YEAR 6 pupils at Woodthorpe Primary School dressed up as Vikings yesterday for a battle re-enactment.
The pupils are studying Vikings and Anglo-Saxons and this battle formed part of their topic. The battle re-enactment comes shortly after the anniversary of the 1066 battle of Stamford Bridge.
A representative from the school said: "It was a drizzly looking Monday morning, but the whole school turned out to watch the battle and were astonished at the elaborate costumes, echoing battle cries and fearsome facial expressions of the Vikings and Anglo Saxons.
"Everybody had a brilliant time and the spectacle was very special."
Woodthorpe Primary is now under new leadership with a new head teacher James McGann and two new assistant heads Ash Atherton and Charlotte Taylor.
