COMIC book royalty will be visiting a shop in York this week, to meet fans and sign his work.

Mark Millar, who created Kick-Ass, Wanted and The Secret Service, which were made into movies starring Nicolas Cage, Angelina Jolie, Colin Firth and Samuel L Jackson, will appear at Travelling Man in Goodramgate on Friday.

Millar wrote for major comic book publishing houses Marvel and DC, creating Marvel's Civil War, Ultimate X-Men and Superman: Red Son, before setting up his own company, Millarworld. He was made MBE in 2013 for his services to film and literature.

Ben Goldsmith, manager of Travelling Man's York branch, said he was looking forward to greeting Millar, and expected plenty of customers would be ready to do the same.

He said: "I'm looking forward to meeting him, I've heard he's a really nice guy.

"He signed at our Manchester branch on Saturday, and there were five-hour queues. I believe he gad to get up and go along the queue to speed things up! I'm expecting similar crowd out of the shop and down the street, really, I think it will be pretty crazy."

Ben said he was flattered that Millar was taking time out of his schedule to visit the shop, but he is not the first big name to pack crowds into the little shop in Goodramgate.

In 2011 and again last year, the store hosted a signing by award-winning American artist Tim Sale, who illustrated major Batman titles including The Long Hallowe’en and Dark Victory and provided artwork for the first series of US superhero drama Heroes.

Ben said: "We've had some really big names here before, but I think Mark will be the biggest we've had so far.

"We're going to have to move the whole shop around on Thursday night, but we're going to be open all day ahead of the signing at 5.30pm."
