A MAN was rescued from the River Ouse last night.
York Rescue Boat reported the man jumped into the river from Ouse Bridge at about 6.45pm on Saturday, and the crew facilitated the Rescue.
Dave Benson, who founded the Rescue Boat charity, said: "A crew member spotted a male climbing onto the parapet on Ouse Bridge. He then dived in from the top of the bridge.
"We deployed the boat. He was unable to keep swimming and we facilitated a rescue and pulled him onto the boat. We took him to shore, where an ambulance and police met us."
The man was taken to York Hospital for assessment, and Mr Benson said the incident could have been much more serious.
He said: "The river is 11 degrees and he was instantly suffering the effects of cold water shock.
"If we weren't there, the chance of him drowning was extremely high due to the fact he was intoxicated, cold and his ability to swim was diminishing rapidly."
This video was filmed from a pub overlooking the river. The sound has been removed.
