TWO new gyms could be opened on the southern edges of York city centre.
Planners are soon to consider applications to convert buildings in Walmgate and off James Street in two former industrial buildings.
The Walmgate plan is for an empty disability equipment showroom in the Enterprise Complex in Walmgate, close to the York Boxing Club, to become a gym with a fitness studio, with showers and changing rooms for customers.
A planning statement says that, with the city centre and residential areas close by, there is an identified demand for fitness activities.
On the James Street site, another application shows plans for a gym in a unit on Yorvale Business Park. While converting the building would not require any external alterations, neighbours have raised concerns over whether there is enough parking nearby.
