TWO teenage girls have been arrested after an assault in York.

North Yorkshire Police were called to Barkston Road in Chapelfields at about 8.15pm on Monday, to reports of the assault and attempted robbery of a 14-year-old girl whose phone was damaged in the incident.

Two 14-year-old girls were arrested in Grange Lane at just after 8.30pm in connection with the incident.

One was arrested on suspicion of assault and criminal damage and the other on suspicion of assault. Both were released on police bail to a later date while enquiries continue.

A North Yorkshire Police spokesman said the victim was not believed to have been hurt in the incident.
