THE Holgate Windmill Preservation Society has had to cancel its first public open weekend of the year.
The event was due to go ahead on May 12 and 13, but has had to be cancelled due to delays with a restoration project.
Society chairman Bob Anderton, of Windmill Rise in Holgate, said: "We are presently having the mill's ground floor dug up in readiness for the installation of a new stone flagged floor, which should have been finished in time for the May opening weekend.
"However, the stone supplier has encountered delivery problems, which are preventing our contractor from completing the work in time and reinstating the ladder to the first floor and above.
"We are naturally disappointed, but the remaining open weekend dates advertised on our website at www.holgatewindmill.org will go ahead, with the next one being on June 2 and June 3, from 11am till 4pm."
