STARS of stage and screen will be honoured with degrees from York St John University.

Students celebrating their graduation at York Minster in November are set to do so alongside an array of famous faces from film and television.

Hollywood actor Mark Addy, 51, will pick up his degree on November 17.

The York actor performed alongside the late Heath Ledger in A Knight's Tale, starred in 1997's The Full Monty and was most recently seen in BBC One's Atlantis when he played Hercules.

He will receive an honorary degree in recognition of his successful career in film and television.

Political journalist and broadcaster Andrew Marr, who served as the BBC's Political Editor between 2000 and 2005, is receiving his degree a day later alongside Christian Prudhomme, director of The Tour de France and Sir Gary Verity, the chief executive of Welcome to Yorkshire and the man credited with binging 2014's opening stages of the Tour de France to York.

York-born Harry Potter actor David Bradley, 73 and Sherlock actress Una Stubbs, 78, will receive their honours on the final day of ceremonies on November 19.

Her father, a confectioner, was born in York and her family has connections with the site of the University’s The Grange accommodation, which featured on the BBC programme Who Do You Think You Are? in 2013.

Professor David Fleming, former vice chancellor of York St John University, Lord Bilimoria of Chelsea, the founder of Cobra beer, documentary producer Alastair Fothergill and cameraman Keith Massey are also being honoured.

Professor Karen Stanton, vice chancellor of York St John University, said: "We are delighted to be awarding these honorary degrees as part of our graduation celebrations. Graduation is a rewarding time for our students, the culmination of years of hard work, and the honorary graduands add to the occasion with their inspirational stories and successes in their respective fields."

Honorary degrees will be presented at the graduation ceremonies in the Minster by Chancellor of York St John University and Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu.
