James looks to net some votes

IT seems one prospective York councillor has been more innovative than most in his electioneering methods.

James Alexander, would-be Labour councillor for Holgate, has not been content with knocking on doors and leafleting his potential voters.

He has gone as far as launching his own online TV channel Time-4-Change TV.

Launched on the internet site youtube, it includes videos which he hopes will appeal to people in York and beyond, and to share political videos.

The Diary has taken a look at one somewhat cringe-worthy video, in which James asks viewers to tell him what they would like to see changed in the world.

He says that if elected, he also plans a video-diary!

James said: "I want people to realise that some people like me, who want to be elected representatives, are ordinary people who are trying to do some good for the local community.

"Video is another method by which you can gain direct access to residents and sites like youtube also allow residents to make direct responses in return."

James is far from alone in his quest for online success. His moves have been backed by Government minister Hazel Blears, who said: "I think James has done a marvellous job in trying to engage with the people of York.

"It really shows innovation and drive."
