A CENTURIES old biscuit that made the fortune of a York family has been recreated by local history enthusiasts.
The Fulford Biscuit was the creation of John and Hannah Leng, who started life in Wilberfoss in the early 1800s.
The couple and their family soon moved to Fulford in search of a better life for their children - and business for their product boomed from their home and bakery at 77, Main Street.
The recipe was kept secret and although parts of it were inherited by Marjorie Leng - great-granddaughter of John and Hannah - the method was lost over time.
Now Fishergate, Fulford and Heslington Local History Society have produced a new leaflet on the history of the famous biscuit, and member Barbara King has used the original recipe to create a modern version of the Fulford biscuit.
