TWO new additions to the family at a Yorkshire zoo are taking their first steps into the world.

Ryedale attraction Flamingo Land is now the proud owner of a baby red panda, and a baby Rothschild giraffe - the second to be born at the zoo this year.

The red panda baby was discovered by a delighted zoo keeper in a nest box in her parents' enclosure on June 4, and disturbance was kept to a minimum for the first ten weeks of her life.

Now the cub - the first for parents Tai Jang and Bai Jiao - is starting to explore the world around her next box. Tai Jang and Bai Jiao have been at Flamingo Land for just two years, so staff are thrilled with the addition to their red panda family.

The zoo welcomed another - slightly taller - new arrival less than two months after the red panda cub's appearance.

A baby Rothschild giraffe was born to six year old Mylene and eight year old George on August 20. After the birth of a Rothschild giraffe foal in spring this year August's baby takes the number of the rare giraffe's at the Ryedale zoo to 10.
