MANAGER Russ Wilcox has given his full blessing to York City winger Anthony Straker heading out on international duty with Grenada.

The Ealing-born 26-year-old, who has made only one substitute appearance for the Minstermen this season in the opening-day defeat to Wycombe, is away until a week on Friday.

This makes him unavailable for the Sky Bet League Two trip to Newport County on Saturday.

Grenada take on Haiti home and away this Friday and next Tuesday in a play-off to reach the main group stage of World Cup qualifying in the North/Central America and Caribbean section.

Asked if he was happy for the out-of-favour attacker to go, Wilcox said: "It's great to represent your country. I will never stand in the way of that.

"You have to be respectful of that – it's a great honour for players to play for their country."

Full-back Marvin McCoy, meanwhile, missed out on selection for Antigua & Barbuda's World Cup qualifying games against Guatemala so remains available for the Minstermen this weekend.
