A CHIP shop in Selby has been named the top chippy in Yorkshire and is now competing for the regional and national title.

Mister C’s on Micklegate, Selby has been announced as the top fish and chip shop in Yorkshire, and will now fight Pantrini's Fish and Chips from Whitley Bay to be named North East England’s best fish and chip shop before one goes up against nine other regional winners for the top national accolade.

Judging criteria has included shop appearance, responsible sourcing policies, customer service and staff training policies, and the shops have been through mystery shopping assessments by industry experts.

Paul Williams, chief executive of organisers Seafish, said: “The aim of the National Fish and Chip Awards has always been to showcase the very best fish and chip businesses and individuals in the UK while setting incredibly high standards for the industry to aspire to.

“Many of our past winners and finalists have gone on to reap substantial benefits, including international fame through industry trips overseas, increased shop footfall and turnover and even launching their own products.”

The awards culminate in a ceremony at The Lancaster London Hotel in January 2016, before which the 10 regional winners are invited on an all-expense paid study trip to Ålesund, Norway.
