NEW York City rockers The Last Internationale are cramming in a short Saturday night headlining slot at Fibbers between appearances at the Leeds and Reading festivals. This tight three-piece band comprise Delila Paz on lead vocals and bass, guitarist Edgey Pires and Tom Wilks on drums, and most of the set comes from their 2014 debut album We Will Reign.

The title track of the album sets the tone for the evening – a mix of excellent vocals, classic rock guitar and clear bass and drums. Archetypal American rock songs like Wanted Man and Life, Liberty and the Pursuit of Indian Blood demonstrate why they’ve been chosen as the opening act for Robert Plant, The Who, and Slash.

Slower tracks like Fire and a couple of acoustic numbers balance out the 10-song setlist. A cover of the Malvina Reynolds civil rights protest song It Isn’t Nice emphasises the bands political edge, whilst Hard Times is classic rock song with a swirling middle-eight guitar solo.

The single encore, 1968, is introduced with a brief “people have the power” call to arms from Edgey. He then promptly turns up the volume and jumps off the stage into the crowd – a feat he probably can’t replicate at a festival – bringing the evening to a loud and successful conclusion.
