WELL-WISHERS and kind relatives have raised nearly £3,000 for a mum-of-three with a life-limiting heart condition.

Around 300 people took part in a family fun day at York's Railway Institute club at the weekend, to help Amy Miller take her children on holiday.

The 33-year-old was born with a congenital heart defect which saw her spend years in hospital as a child, and the condition has scarcely improved in adulthood.

Amy's illness puts her at risk of heart failure and she is awaiting two major operations to ease the problems, but doctors fear they will only get worse and she is running out of time to make precious memories with her children, Jessica, Louise and Charlie.

Her parents had to re-start her heart in March when she collapsed at home and she has since spent uncertain days in and out of hospital.

The money raised at Sunday's event, along with money collected over the last few weeks, will be put towards a holiday for the Holgate mum.

Make-A-Wish Foundation, a charity which gives people the chance to live out their dreams, has also donated a day in the life of a zookeeper treat to Amy.

Her sister, Katie, who organised the fundraiser, said: "Amy is feeling a lot better in herself but she's got to have two operations.

"She loved the day and was really overwhelmed by it all.

"People have been donating items, selling things and we set up a gofundme account.

"A lot of people have been following Amy' story and one lady donated £500 to her. She said she had never been in a financial position to help anyone out before but now she is and she wanted to help Amy.

"This will give her the chance to create some happy memories with the children and have days out with them."

The money could also be used to go towards a heart transplant operation if doctors deem it necessary.

Katie told The Press some of the money will pay for her sister's expenses if she undergoes an operation at the specialist transplant unit at Papworth Hospital, in Cambridgeshire.
